Welcome To My World

Crochet is exploding in fashion, culture and art. I am seeing people wearing and making so many amazing things with a simple hook and yarn. As a crocheter who came of age during the crochet revolution of the 1970s, this is magical for me. I have waited for the world to catch up with crochet and for my beloved art form to receive the credit and applause I always felt it deserved.

This website is in its infancy. I have tried so many times to create an online world filled with my style of crochet only to get discouraged and quite to try something new. This time, I am here primarily for myself. This is where I will document my journey - past, present and future plans - so that I can inspire and encourage others to pick up a hook and give crochet a try. Whether you crochet garments, home decor, lace, or art, crochet is something that will greatly enrich your life.

As much as I love to crochet, it is possible I love making yarn even more. I had the privilege of owning a yarn shop for eleven years. For most of that time I had a business partner. My partner was a pattern and project driven knitter; I was a yarn driven crochetist. I was happy to buy and display the yarn and fantasize about what could be done with it. When I learned to spin, first on a spindle and then a wheel, my world was transformed. I remember declaring the minute I finished my first hank of yarn, “I want everyone to experience using hand spun yarn!” It is still my goal. There is a life and vitality to hand spun yarn that is vastly different from commercially made yarn. For one thing, hand spun yarn is generally (but not always) made from wool. Cotton, flax (linen), bamboo, silk and mohair are also available as spinning fiber, but my first love will always be wool.

I will be writing a newsletter which will arrive via email once a month. Your email is safe and I won’t overwhelm you with messages. We are all too busy for that. The newsletter is called “Into The Studio” as I take you behind the scenes of what I have been working on that month, tips and tricks for you to try in your fiber art practice, as well as a glimpse of what inspires me. When the online shop opens, newsletter subscribers will be the first to know about shop updates, classes and tutorials. You will always be at least twenty-four hours ahead of Instagram and Facebook.

My plans for the blog is to make it the place where I write a bit more in depth about crochet and spinning. Some of the content will be instructional, but primarily it will be me waxing poetic about crochet, wool, spinning yarn, and carrying on these traditions. I love to write, teach and inspire. I hope it feeds you as much as it does me.

After many starts and stops over the past eight years, I think I have finally settled in a place that makes me happy and that I hope brings joy and creativity to you as well.
