My name is Sheryl Means, a crochetist and hand spinner. I love all things crochet and wool makes me swoon.
Wool and Hook is devoted to the art and craft of crochet and hand spinning yarn. In addition to crochet, I also knit, weave and felt. I have tried almost every fiber art technique, but crochet is my real passion. I love freeform crochet art, making blankets and home decor with crochet including lace as decor.
Who?
What?
My vision is to create a community of folks who love the fiber arts as much as I do. The focus will be on crochet as well as hand spinning yarn; however, because I owned a yarn shop and have tried nearly everything, I will also be sure to include knitting, weaving, and felting in the mix of classes taught.
My passion is for teaching beginners. There is a special joy in bringing new people into the world of fiber arts. I also love helping people; therefore I will be on the lookout for others who thrive on teaching a variety of fiber art methods.
Initially, this will be an online community with the dream of having a physical teaching studio one day.
Why?
When someone learns to create with yarn, thread, and cloth, they step into traditions as old as mankind. The story of textiles touches all people across nationality, ethnicity, socio-economic status, age, gender…name any category in which humanity can be placed and those people are impacted by textiles which are a form of fiber art. Understanding this can transform a person’s view of cloth, clothes, the earth, and their role in this world. That alone is reason enough; however, the joy and health benefits that come with making something by hand with fiber are well documented. I want to share my knowledge and skills with as many people as possible. I know it makes a difference.
When you take the time to make something by hand, you are telling the world the story of you.
What story do you want to tell?
